Kasus berawal dari kematian Gordon Grant, seorang pemilik farmasi terkenal di Stellis. Gordon memiliki anak laki-laki bernama Harry Grant. Harry meminta kita untuk melindunginya atas tuduhan pembunuhan ayahnya. Harry menduga bahwa pembunuhnya adalah Joanne Scott, simpanan Gordon. Walaupun Harry membenci Joanne, namun Harry sangat menyayangi anaknya Joanne, Joey Grant. Setelah diselidiki, pelaku yang membunuh Gordon adalah Joanne. Joanne melakukan hal ini karena dia mengetahui bahwa ternyata Gordon menggunakan Joey sebagai alat penguji obat. Pengujian ini menyebabkan kerusakan permanen dalam organ Joey. Pengurus rumah Grant, Fannie Morris, awalnya memiliki tujuan yang sama dengan Joanne, ingin membunuh Gordon. Fannie melakukan ini karena dia juga menyayangi Joey dan tau tentang perbuatan Gordon. Di persidangan, Fannie yang awalnya menjadi saksi mata yang akan membela Joanne, karena tau tentang wasiat orang tua Harry dan mengetahui jika Harry akan membiayai perawatan Joey, dia kemudian mengubah pernyataannya dan membela Harry. Karena hal ini, kredibilitas Fannie sebagai saksi mata dianggap kurang baik, sehingga Harry maupun Joanne dibebaskan dari tuduhan karena kurangnya bukti dan dianggap bersih.
